Bhubaneswar: As the rarest of rare summer cyclone ‘Fani’ ravaged Odisha on Friday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today appealed for donations for rebuild the affected districts in the State.
“Odisha has been devastated by cyclone Fani. Please help rebuild precious lives with your online contribution to Chief Minister Relief Fund via link: http://www.cmrfodisha.gov.in”, Naveen said in a Twitter message.
The devastation is unfathomable and unprecedented, he said after undertaking an aerial survey of the affected areas.
“For me and my Government, every life is precious and we worked with that goal. I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart to all the volunteers, PRI members, officials who worked tirelessly and selflessly to relocate around 1.2 million people to safety”, the CM told the media earlier today.
The Chief Minister also directed concerned agencies to step up coordinated relief operations.
The severe cyclonic storm Fani, which had made landfall in Puri with wind speed of more than 200 km per hour and gusting speed of 240 km per hour, had apart critical infrastructure especially power, telecom and water supply.
Lakhs of trees were uprooted blocking roads, breaking homes and damaging public infrastructure.
The districts of Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagada have been affected by the natural disaster.
