Bhubaneswar: The Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm FANI is expected to make landfall near to the temple city of Puri by 8 am today. The cyclone moved north-northeastwards with a speed of about 16 kmph in the last six hours and lay centred at 0430 hrs IST about 110 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha), about 65 km southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha), about 250 km northeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
FANI is likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Odisha Coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, south of Puri during 3rd May by 8 AM with maximum sustained wind speed of 170-180 kmph gusting to 200 kmph. Landfall process is very likely to continue till noon/afternoon of 3rd May, according to the release issued by the IMD.
Because of the Severe Cyclone, most of the southern and coastal districts of Odisha have experienced heavy rains. While Gopalpur in Ganjam district has received 132 mm of rainfall upto 4 am, Puri has received 100 mm rainfall. Capital city Bhubaneswar has also received 40 mm rain due to the impact of the cyclone.
