New Delhi: The cyclone storm Gulab is likely to start the landfall process from 6PM today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Cyclone Gulab is currently 180km east-southeast of Odisha’s Gopalpur and 240km east-northeast of Kalingapatnan in Andhra Pradesh. Cyclone Gulab will make landfall around September 26 (Sunday) midnight between the coasts of Gopalpur and Kalingapatnan with a maximum sustained wind speed between 75 and 85 km/hour, gusting to 95 km/hour, the IMD said in its latest bulletin.
Earlier today, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reviewed the State’s preparedness to deal with the cyclone.
The CM held discussions with the Collectors of 11 districts – Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri and Kalahandi through video conferencing from New Delhi and directed them to ensure evacuation of people living in low-lying areas, slopes and other vulnerable areas to safer places.
