Cyclone Jawad May Weaken Into Deep Depression When Crossing Puri Coast

Bhubaneswar: In what could be a big relief for people and administration, Cyclone Jawad is expected to weaken into a deep depression by the time it crosses the Puri Coast. The latest bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department shows that the Cyclonic Storm Jawad over west-central Bay of Bengal moved slightly northwards with a speed of 04 kmph during past 06 hours and lay centered at 0530 IST of today, about 230 km southeast of Vishakhapatnam, 410 km south-southwest of Puri and 490 km south-southwest of Paradip.

It is likely to weaken gradually and move nearly northwards during the next 12 hours and then north-northeastwards along Odisha coast reaching near Puri around 5th December noon as a Deep Depression. Subsequently, it is likely to weaken further and continue to move north-northeastwards along Odisha coast towards West Bengal coast.

The MET has issued warning that today light to moderate rainfall will be there at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over coastal Odisha; heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Odisha and heavy rainfall over coastal districts of Gangetic West Bengal.

It also said that gale wind, speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph, prevails over westcentral Bay of Bengal. It would gradually decrease becoming 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal by mid-night of today. It would decrease further becoming 50-60 gusting to 70 kmph from the morning of 5th December over northwest Bay of Bengal.
