Cyclone Sitrang: Well Marked Low Pressure To Transform Into Depression In Next 12 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The Low Pressure area over north Andaman Sea has become a well-marked Low Pressure and will transform into a depression in the next 12 hours. It is further likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by 24th October. The system currently lies over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Eastcentral Bay of Bengal & north Andaman Sea. It will further intensify into a Deep Depression over Eastcentral and adjoining Southeast and Westcentral Bay of Bengal by Sunday.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the system is very likely to recurve gradually northwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over West-central and adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal by Monday. Thereafter, it is likely to move north-northeastwards and reach near West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts by 25th October, skirting Odisha coast.

The IMD has also issued heavy rain warning for Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts from morning of 23rd to morning of 24th October and Orange warning for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur from the Morning of 24th October to morning of 25th October.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal from 22nd October and along and off Odisha coast and West-central & North Bay of Bengal from 23rd October to 26th October, 2022. Fishermen whoever in deep sea are advised to return to the coast by 22nd October,2022.
