Dhenkanal: More than 800 BJP workers in Dhenkanal district have left the saffron party and took the membership of ruling Biju Janata Dal.
Led by former Dhenkanal municipality chairman Sudhansu Dalei, the BJP workers joined the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik led party at the town hall here on Sunday, according to reports.
The popularity of Naveen Patnaik and his principles of governance have inspired the BJP workers to join the BJD, sources said.
The exodus of BJP workers took place just a day after Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan visited the district to address a farmers’ rally, giving setback to the saffron party.
