Bhubaneswar: The Central Range DIG Ashish Kumar Singh has been ordered to probe the alleged police excess in Pipili, said, a press note of Odisha Pilice today.
“ In some section of media it was reported about assault on some persons forwarded to jail on 19.11.2020 by Pipili Police Station. An enquiry by DIG of Police, Central Range, Cuttack has been ordered into the allegations”, said the release.
It may be noted that police had reportedly detained six persons identified as Hafiz Khan (25), Pratap Kumar Behera (23), Raju Behera (18), Mohammad Tafiq alias Juma (18), Jagannath Puspalak alias Jaga (19) and Dharanidhar Behera (24) and have allegedly been admitted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital on Sunday with multiple injury marks on their bodies. The family members have alleged that they were beaten up by the police.
In the wake of allegations of custodial torture levelled by the aggrieved kin of the six arrested persons, Odisha police has ordered DIG, CR, Ashish Kumar Singh to probe.
