Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the bi-election to the three Rajya Sabha Seats of Odisha.
According to a press note issued, the notification will be issued on the 18th June 2019. While the last date for the nominations is 25th June, scrutiny will be held on June 26th. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 28th June. The polling will be held on 5th July from 9 am to 4 pm. The counting of votes will be held the same day.
The whole process of elections has to be completed by 9th July 2019.
The three seats in Odisha were left vacant after three of the members resigned after their election to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly. While Dr Achyutananda Samanta was elected to the Lok Sabha, Pratap Keshari Deb and Soumyaranjan Patnaik were elected to the Odisha Assembly in the last elections.
Another member of the Rajya Sabha, Anubhab Mohanty also got elected to the Lok Sabha and resigned from the Upper house. But as the tenure is less than one year, the Election Commission did not include it for elections.
Along with the three seats of Odisha, elections will also be held for one seat from Bihar and two seats from Gujarat.
