Bhubaneswar: By-election for the Pipili constituency has been postponed after the death of the Congress Candidate Ajit Mangaraj yesterday.
Speaking to media, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Lohani has said that the Election Commission of India has been notified regarding the death of Mangaraj and it will take the final call on the by-polls for Pipili. The Commission will issue a fresh notification for the by-poll, he said. The by-polls for Pipili were scheduled for 17th of this month and all arrangements were in place in this regard.
Ajit Mangaraj, the congress candidate for Pipili, died of Covid-19 in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar yesterday afternoon. He was 52 years old. The by-polls were necessitated after the death of Pradeep Maharathy of Biju Janata Dal in October 2020, who also died of Covid-19.
