Bhubaneswar: The election to Patkura assembly seat in Kendrapara District has been postponed by two more months in the wake of devastating cyclone ‘Fani’ that hit Odisha on Friday.
The decision was taken by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Fresh poll date will be announced after reviewing the situation, an official release said.
Notably, Kendrapara has been affected by the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani.
As per the previous announcement by Commission, the poll was supposed to be held on May 19 after it could not be conducted on April 29 during the fourth phase of polling in Odisha due to the death of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Bed Prakash Agarwalla.
Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had requested the ECI for postponement of the election in view of Fani.
