New Delhi: The Centre has not received any proposal from the State Government or any airport developer for construction of a greenfield airport at Rangeilunda in Ganjam district.
This has been informed by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol in Rajya Sabha.
The Union Minister stated this while responding to the questions of BJD Rajya MP Dr. Sasmit Patra.
The BJD MP sought to know whether Government is considering to establish a greenfield airport at Rangeilunda, where an airstrip already exists.
The Union Minister said that the Central Government has not received any proposal for ‘Site Clearance’ under Greenfield Airports Policy from Government of Odisha or any Airport Developer for construction of a Greenfield Airport at Rangeilunda, Ganjam district of Odisha.
The Government of India (GoI) has formulated a Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008 for development of new Greenfield airports in the country. As per the GFA policy, if any airport developer including the State Government desires to develop an airport, they are required to identify a suitable site and get the Prefeasibility Study conducted for construction of airport and submit a proposal to the Central Government for ‘Site Clearance’ followed by ‘In-Principle’ approval, he said.
However, the GoI has not received any proposal for ‘Site Clearance’ under GFA Policy for construction of a greenfield airport at Rangeilunda, the Union Minister said.
