Minor Girl Rape Case in Pipili: BJD Demands Thorough Probe

Puri: A delegation of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders met Puri Superintendent of Police Vinit Agrawal today, demanding a proper investigation into the alleged rape of a minor girl in Pipili, Puri district.

The heinous crime, reportedly committed on May 11 by a street hawker from West Bengal has sparked widespread outrage across Odisha.

“This heinous crime, perpetrated by a street hawker identified as Sheikh Bareli from Sabala, Medinipur district of West Bengal, has caused immense distress and outrage throughout our state”, the BJD delegation said.

“We acknowledge the swift action taken by the Pipili police in apprehending the accused following the victim’s family’s complaint. However, we emphasize the critical need for a thorough, impartial, and expedited investigation to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice and that such a reprehensible act is never repeated”, the party added.

The BJD also called for comprehensive measures to enhance public safety, including the creation of a database for street hawkers and a strict regulatory framework. The memorandum emphasized mandatory registration and verification procedures, particularly for hawkers from outside Odisha, to monitor and regulate their activities in Puri district.

The opposition party reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens’ well-being and urged the authorities to implement these measures promptly to restore public confidence and prevent such incidents.
