On the eve of International Coastal Clean Up Day, SICOM has launched the Indian version of the Eco label BEAMS by hoisting the MY BEACH Flag at 8 beaches, which are ready and recommended for the Blue flag tag. Since Golden Beach, Puri is one of them, the flag was hoisted there as well. In a tribute to the unsung heroes of cleanliness, Sarojini Pradhan, the senior most sanitary worker, hoisted the flag at the Golden Beach. This was a way to honour sanitary workers who keep the beach clean and beautiful.

Puri’s Golden beach made it a special event this year as the Union Environment Ministry has recommended eight beaches of the country for the coveted Blue Flag certification including the Golden Beach of Puri.
On the eve of International Coastal Clean-Up Day, celebrated in 100 countries since 1986, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday announced that eight Indian beaches have been recommended for the international Blue Flag Certification – given to the world’s cleanest beaches.
