Puri: The flood situation in Puri district is improving as the water levels in major rivers have started receding.
This has been informed by Puri Collector Balwant Singh.
Giving updates about the flood situation in the district, Singh said that the water level in Kushabhadra River has decreased by 1m and that of Bhargavi has reduced by 1.5 feet, bringing improvement in the situation.
More than 80,000 people in 37 panchayats of seven blocks have been affected by the flood in Puri, he said.
To tackle the inundation in 120 villages, the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Fire Services teams have been deployed.
The relief and rescue operations have been intensified in the affected areas. The administration is making all efforts to provide essential items to the people in waterlogged areas in the district, he said.
As instructed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the district administration is assessing the damage caused by the flood, he added.
