Flood Situation To Improve As Water Inflow To Hirakud Recede

Bhubaneswar: The flood water inflow to the Hirakud Dam has decreased significantly in the last 12 hours and the average inflow stood at 5,03,109 Cusecs at 11 am today. The reservoir level of Hirakud remained at 627.12 ft and was decreasing. 5,98,409 Cusecs of water is being released to the downstream through 36 sluice gates of the dam. While rains in the upper catchment area of Mahanadi in Chhattisgarh have stopped, Odisha also remained almost dry in the last 24 hours. Munduli in Cuttack is receiving 10 lakh 20 thousand cusecs of water which is expected to decrease after 2 pm today.

The situation in the Mahanadi downstream areas in the Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha and Puri districts is also improving with flood waters receding. District administrations have been taking all steps to provide relief and restoration. Flood fighting materials have been kept ready in all the areas. Water level in various rivers of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada will take another four days to completely recede.
