Lucknow: Former Indian cricketer Chetan Chauhan passed away today after multiple organ failure, according to reports.
Chauhan (73) had been admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi PGI Hospital in Lucknow after testing COVID-19 positive on July 12.
Chauhan was also a Cabinet Minister in Uttar Pradesh government.
Chetan Chauhan had played 40 Test matches for India. He played most of his international cricket in the late 1970s and was the regular opening partner of Sunil Gavaskar during that period.
Chetan Chauhan was appointed as Chairman of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) from June 2016 to June 2017. He was also twice elected to the Lok Sabha from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, in 1991 and 1998. As of August 2018, he was minister for youth and sports in Uttar Pradesh.
