Former PM Manmohan Singh Files Rajya Sabha Nomination from Rajasthan

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today filed nomination papers for the by-poll to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.

Accompanied by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and other senior Congress leaders, 86-year old Singh filed his papers in the chamber of the returning officer in the Rajasthan Assembly, media reports stated.

The by-poll was necessitated following the death of BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Madan Lal Saini in June.
Rajasthan has 10 Rajya Sabha seats.
The chance of Singh’s winning the election is bright as the Congress has the majority in the Rajasthan Assembly.

Singh was a member of the Upper House of Parliament from Assam for almost three decades.

He was the country’s Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014.
