Four Matches, 38 Goals, Five Hat-tricks: Birsa Munda Stadium Sees Scintillating Play On the Final Day Of Pool Matches
Rourkela: It was raining goals at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela yesterday as four important Group Stage Matches took place. The day saw some of the best plays of the tournament till date this year of the World Cup. The four matches of the final day – Australia Vs South Africa, France Vs Argentina, Belgium Vs Japan, and Korea Vs Germany saw 38 goals in a single day yesterday. The goals included five hat-tricks. The power packed stadium saw some of the finest goals of the World Cup yesterday. The five hat-tricks were given by Australia’s Blake Govers, France’s Victor Charlet, Argentina’s Nicolas Della Torre, Belgium’s Tom Boon and Germany’s Niklas Wellen.
While Australia, Belgium, Netherlands and England have been the pool winners and enter the quarterfinals, they will face the winners of the crossover matches in the last eight stage.
Tomorrow, two crossover matches will be played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. While the Indian team will face New Zealand, Malaysia will fight with Spain. Today is a rest day for all the teams.
