Berhampur: Contraband Ganja weighing 231.600 kg was seized by police in Digapahandi area of Odisha’s Ganjam district and the peddler was arrested in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Siba Roula (41) of Chhnameri Bada Sahi village in Digapahandi.
Basing on tipoff regarding illegal transportation of contraband Ganja by four to five persons in a tractor fitted with trailer to Chakatenuli Dherendi village from Mohana side, a police team of Digapahandi PS led by SI B.B.Ganda detained the vehicle on the main road at Chakatentuli.
The police arrested Siba Roula, while four other accompanying persons could manage to escape from the spot to the nearby jungle.
The cops seized nine jerry bags containing 231.600 kg of contraband Ganja and the tractor.
Besides, two mobile phones, cash worth Rs 20,000, two bank accounts of accused Siba Roula with two cheque books having balance of Rs. 11,99,313.81 were also recovered.
The accused is arrested and forwarded to the court. The investigation of the case is in progress, informed Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra.
