Ganjam Admin Clamps Shutdown in Urban Areas, Block Hqrts till July 13

Berhampur: In the wake of constant rise in the number of Coronavirus cases in the district, the Ganjam district administration has decided to impose a shutdown from July 9 to July 13 in urban areas and block headquarters in the district.

The urban areas including Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), Hinjilicut Municipality and all NACs, and block headquarters in the district will be shut down from 12 Noon to 7AM.

Announcing the decision, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said that health screening will be done in all NACs, Hinjilicut municipality, All Block headquarters and BeMC from 9th July to 13 July.

For this purpose, the above areas will be shutdown for five days. Essential services like goods, agriculture and health will remain in continue, he said.

The administration had taken the measures in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

He also sought the cooperation of people of the district during the shutdown.

The Ganjam district administration has decided to launch a rapid antigen test from Wednesday. As per the plan, door to door screening will also be kicked off tomorrow onwards in urban areas. Screening team with oximeter will visit door to door. They will also collect data, if there are any comorbidity patients.

The district administration has appealed all to cooperate and don’t hide symptoms of Covid-19.

Earlier, speaking with the thenewsroom.co.in, a large number of people from different walks of life had strongly pitched for complete shutdown and several stringent measures by the district administration to control the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Ganjam has emerged as the major COVID-19 hotspot in Odisha, registering the highest number of 2621 positive cases in the State.
