Ganjam Admin Gears up to Face Cyclone Fani with Zero Casualty Mission

Berhampur: With extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ likely to impact the southern district of Ganjam, the district administration has started taking all precautionary measures to face the natural disaster with zero casualty mission.

As part of the measures, the administration has initiated the mass evacuation operation in order to ensure safety and protection to the people during the possible natural calamity.

The administration has the set the target of evacuating to nearly 1.5 lakh people from low lying areas to high lands on a war footing, said Ganjam District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.

Special attention will be given to shift the people staying in vulnerable hilly areas to safer places, he added.

 The shifted people will be provided accommodation in 77 cyclone shelters, Anganwadi centres and schools.

The administration will also make arrangements for food, drinking water and required medicines for the shifted people, he further said.

The leave of all government employees, doctors, para medical staff and police personnel in the district have been canceled  in view of the extremely severe cyclonic storm heading towards the coast to make land fall on May 3.

The fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea in view of the possible cyclonic storm, sources said.
