The campaign has received an overwhelming response from the very first day of its launch today with the greater involvement of people from all walks of life.
‘Mo Gopalpur’ is a mega awareness drive that not only aims at cleaning up the beach, but also to promote the tourism potential of Gopalpur, said Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange, who participated in the campaign this morning.
The campaign, launched by the District Urban Development Agency and Gopalpur NAC, has registered more than 500 volunteers on Friday.
Mo Gopalpur, which means My Gopalpur in Odia, aims to instill a sense of belongingness among the volunteers to do their part for the promotion of the Gopalpur beach, one of the major tourist destinations in the district.
On the theme ‘LETS WALK FOR CLEANLINESS’ under the campaign, different stakeholders including students, officials, senior citizens and local people will participate in the cleaning drive every morning to keep the shoreline clean and beautiful, said the Collector.
Today, the volunteers were seen picking up plastic waste and garbage from the beach.
Besides the cleanliness of the beach, the program will also promote local culture by hosting special cultural programs on Sundays.
The district admin has appealed to the local people and nearby areas to participate in the campaign to make it successful.
Located just 16 km away from Berhampur, the commercial hub of southern Odisha, the Gopalpur beach with coconut groves, casuarinas and gentle sand dunes is one of the major tourist destinations in the State.
