Berhampur: The Ganjam administration has roped in ITI (Industrial Training Institute) Berhampur for repair and maintenance of e-vehicles used for waste collection in the district.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Zilla Parishad, Ganjam and ITI, Berhampur in this regard.
It was signed in the presence of CDO-cum-EO, ZP, Ganjam Keerthi Vasan V and ITI Berhampur Principal Dr. Rajat Panigrahy.
As per the MoU, the ITI Berhampur students will undertake repair and maintenance works of battery operated vehicles used for waste collection in various Gram Panchayats of the district.
Notably, the Ganjam administration had launched ‘Mo Gaon Khata’ or organic manure production scheme last year to solve the solid waste management issues at the gram Panchayat level.
The project managed by the members of women SHGs under Mission Shakti, has battery-operated vehicles for door-to-door collection of garbage and segregation of waste
The organic waste collected from the villages is then processed at the Micro Composting Centre (MCC) and converted into compost manure to help keep the environment clean and garbage-free besides providing farmers who are now turning their attention to organic farming, with manure.
