Ganjam: Chatrapur NAC Ropes in WSHG to Collect Waste from Homes using Battery-Operated Vehicles

Chatrapur: In a unique initiative to empower women, the Chatrapur NAC in Odisha’s Ganjam district has roped in women self-help group (WSHG) members to collect waste from homes using battery-operated vehicles.

The Chatrapur NAC, which in the past has taken several steps to economically empower the women, said that the latest initiative serves the dual purposes of empowerment of women and urban sanitation.

WSHG members’ participation in urban sanitation is bringing positive changes at the grassroots level, the civic body said.

The trained women from SHGs are driving battery-operated vehicles to collect garbage from door to door in various areas to keep the town clean and green.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been giving utmost priority on empowerment of women. Recently, the State Cabinet had approved creation of a separate Mission Shakti department to further empower the WSHGs by engaging them in a range of economic activities.
