Berhampur: In the wake of rising number of Coronavirus cases, the Ganjam district administration has decided to impose a stricter lockdown and announced extension of lockdown timing from 7 am to 12 noon in the district till June last.
It means the lockdown in the district will be implemented from 12 Noon to 7 AM.
The relaxation period will be from 7 AM to 12 Noon. Also, the total shutdown announced by the Odisha government in the weekends will continue and there will not be any relaxations on those two days.
Addressing media persons, Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said that the administration had to take stringent steps in order to contain the spread of the disease. He also sought the cooperation of all the people during the shutdown.
Kulange said, the Coronavirus cases are on the rise in Ganjam, and to break the virus chain and to contain further spread of the virus, the administration had to take this tough decision.
Except essential services and banking, all other businesses will remain closed during the lockdown, he added.
Goods trucks, taxis, and buses will continue to play on the national Highway.
Ganjam Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Ray was also present during the interaction with the media.
Earlier in the morning, the Collector reviewed the Coronavirus situation in the district with the senior officials of the district including, PD-DRDA, Additional district magistrates, Sub-collectors, and BeMC Commissioner among others.
Notably, speaking with thenewsroom.co.in, a large number of people from all walks of life had opined that the district administration should re-impose complete lockdown in the district to contain the spread of the disease.
