Bhubaneswar: Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange has shared cyclone management practices with the officers of Maharashtra’s Raigad district administration at a training programme here on Thursday.
A three-day training programme “Training of Officers of Raigad District (Maharashtra) on Cyclone Mitigation and Preparedness” was organized by the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) in collaboration with Raigad District Administration at Madhusudan Das Regional Academy of Financial Management (MDRAFM) Bhubaneswar from March 15 to 17.
Attending the programme, Vijay Amruta Kulange, who has earned praises from the Odisha Government for successfully handing the cyclones like Titli and Fani in Ganjam district, shared the disaster management strategies with the participants.
Kulange said that involvement of community and women self-help groups are vital for successfully handling of natural calamities, like cyclones.
He shared the Ganjam administration’s experiences of the cyclone Titli and Fani with the Raigad officers and how the administration fought the disasters with the help of community members and women self-help groups.
He said that Ganjam is prone to natural disaster. It faces cyclone almost every year. To mitigate the challenges of cyclone, the administration has trained women and community members with the support of personnel of police, fire services, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and other key departments.
They are immensely helping the administration in evacuation, rescue, restoration and rehabilitation during natural disasters, especially cyclones, the Ganjam Collector said.
