Ganjam: Commuters Hit Hard as Private Bus Owners’ Association Goes on Strike in Berhampur from Today

Berhampur: Commuters in Odisha’s silk city Berhampur had a harrowing time today as private bus owners’ association started a strike opposing the District Administration’s decision to relocate the city bus stand temporarily.

All private buses plying in Berhampur town remained off road as a part of the protest which was launched after a meeting between the association members and the administration failed to resolve the issue, sources said.

The private bus owners did not accept the proposal to shift the passenger bus terminus of Berhampur to a bus stand at Haladiapadar.

Due to repairing and renovation work at existing new bus stand, the Ganjam district administration has asked the private bus owners’ to relocate their service to Haladiapadar bus stand for two months.

However, the association did not accept the proposal and decided to keep their vehicles off road till the completion of the repairing work.

Meanwhile, the passengers are having tough time as several buses connected from silk city to Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Aska, Phulbani, Boudh and other parts of the state remained off the road.
