Ganjam Achieves Another Milestone by Crossing One Lakh COVID Tests
Positivity Rate At 4.12% Indicates Situation Limping Back To Normalcy
Berhampur: From a Covid-19 Hotspot to Green Zone in the making, Odisha’s Ganjam district has achieved a major accomplishment which many believed difficult. Proving its mettle in management of the pandemic, the Ganjam district administration with the active support of the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has shown that sincere efforts will definitely give positive results.
Today Ganjam district has achieved the milestone of conducting more than one lakh Covid tests since its outbreak. What is of more importance is that the number of positive cases is on a declining trend. While the district was once the worst affected in terms of number of positive cases, it is no more a hotspot today.
Ganjam’s planned strategy to contain the spread of the deadly virus has been successful. The Odisha Government’s active involvement in supervising and extending all help including resources and manpower has worked wonders and as a result of which, the trend is reversing.
With its largest migrant returnee population, Ganjam district was the worst affected district in the State. More than 5 lakh people were kept in quarantine after their return from the hotspot states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra , Karnataka and Telangana. A multipronged strategy of testing, tracking and treatment has helped in successfully containing the disease.
The thrust of the administration has been on increasing the number of tests on daily basis. While there were 2697 tests carried out ten days ago with 201 positive cases, the number has increased to 7935 with 327 positive cases by 14th August.
The positivity rate in the district has also declined sharply in the last few days. While it was about 70 percent just a month ago, it has dwindled to just 4.12 percent today. It indicates that the situation in the district is limping back to normalcy.
Ganjam’s 1 lakh tests milestone is more than the national average tests done in many other states. Testing has been increased manifold in the last days. The Corona Curve is now on a flattening trajectory and the number of deaths is also declining. Another important aspect of this improving trend is that green zones in urban local areas have increased to 55 per cent from 49 per cent in the last few days. In rural areas, the percentage of green zones is much better at more than 85 percent.
The developments in the last few days indicate that the district administration has been successful in containing the spread of the disease and could show a way out for others also. The credit must go to the numerous Covid warriors who have fought with brave heart to save lives. Common man’s cooperation has also played a vital role in the success story of Ganjam.
