Berhampur: A dreaded criminal was arrested following an encounter with police in Aska block in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The accused has been identified as P. Sibasankar Dora alias Tingiri.
Tingiri (32), who was wanted in a firing case, was arrested Sunday night at Pandiapathara village under Aska police limit.
Acting on a tip-off about the whereabouts of the criminal, a police team raided the area last night.
Noticing it, Tingiri opened fire at the police team in a bid to escape. In retaliation by police, he sustained bullet injuries on his left knee. Two policemen were also injured in the exchange of fire, sources said.
Tingiri was rushed to Aska hospital and later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.
The police seized one motorcycle, one mouser, and two rounds of live bullets from the possession of the criminal, sources said.
