More than 5 persons in Chikit block have fallen seriously ill after consuming spurious liquor in Maoundpur village, located within the jurisdiction of K Nuagaon police station in Chikiti block on Tuesday.

The hooch tragedy has rocked the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday with opposition Biju Janata Dal members demanding a Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) probe into the incident.

The villagers staged a massive protest blaming the BJP-led State Government for the incident. They blockaded the road at Chikiti demanding compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the deceased. They also demanded ban on sale of liquor.
