Berhampur: The death toll in Ganjam hooch tragedy mounted to five as one more patient died on Monday while he was undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College Hospital here after consuming spurious liquor.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Behera from Jenapur village of Chikiti block. He breathed his last during treatment at the ICU of the hospital, as per reports.
On Sunday, one Baya Sethi of Karabalua village of the same black passed away while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College Hospital.
More than 15 people from Jenapur and Karabalua area were admitted to the medical college and hospital on August 19, after they consumed the suspected spurious liquor in Maundapur village.
Police and excise personnel have arrested at least 16 people in connection with the hooch tragedy, reports added.
Earlier, the opposition BJD and Congress demanded the resignation of the Excise Minister over the hooch tragedy.
