Berhampur: Panic gripped the Rameyapatna village in Ganjam’s Chikiti block after high tidal waves have reportedly destroyed three houses in the neighborhood in the last five days.
The residents of this fishermen village have been facing the threat of sea erosion for the last several years with tidal waves lashing the village menacingly.
As per reports, the high tidal waves crossed the coast at Rameyapatna village and damaged three houses during the last five days.
A team of district administration has visited the village to take of stock of the situation, according to sources.
The houses located on the sea shore are under threat as sand from beneath is exposed to rapid erosion.
The village, which was about 750 metres from the coastline about seven years ago, is now less than 100 meters away due to rapid sea erosion, according to reports.
