Ganjam: Two Dreaded Criminals Injured in Encounter, Held in Berhampur

Berhampur: In another police encounter in Berhampur, two notorious criminals reportedly involved in the murder of Congress MLA candidate from Aska, Manoj Jena have been  arrested late on Friday night.

They have been  identified as Ganesh Nayak and Hrushi Patra, who received bullet injures in their legs following an encounter with Ganjam police. 

Both of them are now undergoing treatment at the hospital amid tight police security.

Acting on a tipoff, police intercepted the two accused when they were travelling on a motorcycle on Friday night  under Golanthara Police limits. Later, the duo was arrested after was a brief exchange of fire. However, three of their associates managed to escape from the spot.

Several cases are pending against the two accused. Police recovered two country-made firearms, live ammunition and a motorcycle from their possession.

Notably, some unidentified miscreants had opened fire at Congress candidate from Aska Manoj Jena near Lanjipalli in Berhampur on May 22 just a day before the announcement of election results.

Jena was admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on May 24.
