Ganjam: Water Bell to Ensure Adequate Drinking Water Intake by Students for Healthy Life

Berhampur: In a first of its kind initiative in Odisha, the Ganjam district administration has introduced ‘Water Bell’ at schools for ensuring adequate drinking water intake by students for healthy life.

The step has been taken after observing many students don’t take adequate water and put to number of diseases due to deficiency of water. Some students return home from school carrying the bottle-full of water they brought in the morning. Even some students particularly girls avoid to take enough water to avoid frequent urination and put to urinary diseases.

In order to overcome such issues and to make children lead a healthy life by drinking adequate water at school, the district administration has decided to introduce ‘Water Bell’ to remind the children to drink water, informed Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.

The water bell will ring trice in a day, at 11.40 AM, 1.30 PM and 3.15 PM from Monday to Friday and at 8.00 AM, 9.30 AM and 10.50 AM on Saturday for mass drinking of water.

The Collector has urged the all Block Education Officers (BEOs), Principals, Headmasters and Headmistresses to implement the ‘Water Bell’ system from November 25 positively.

About 60% of human body and 90% of blood contains water. It is known to be the best and most natural hydrating liquids. Drinking of adequate water solves as panacea for many diseases, as per medical science.
