Berhampur: The weekend shutdown, imposed by the Odisha Government in all urban areas of the State as part of the measures to flatten the rising COVID-19 infection curve, has been successfully enforced in Berhampur city in Ganjam district.
On the second consecutive day, the silk city wore an almost deserted look with people choosing to stay in their homes.
Except medicine shops, all other shops in major market places in Berhampur including Annapurna market, Giri market, Ganesh market, Hanuman bazaar, Sana bazaar, and Bada bazaar, remain closed.
Non-essential vehicular movement restrictions were clamped down for the weekend shutdown just like the previous year’s shutdown.
The Berhampur police have taken elaborate measures to enforce the daily night curfew and weekend shutdown effectively.
The police personnel have been deployed in major areas in the city to check movement of the people.
Action has been taken against violators of mask usage, social distancing rules and other COVID protocols.
Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said that enforcement of weekend shutdown in the city is going on successfully, thanks to the people of Berhampur for their cooperation.
