Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today presented the Suraj Award-2022 to families of Sushil Sahu and Siddhi Samrudhi of Ganjam district on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day.
The award consists of a cash award of Rs 5 lakh and a memento.
The Chief Minister virtually presented the award to families of Sushil and Samrudhi.
The awards were presented in a virtually organized Video Conference program. Odisha Assembly Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha handed over the awards and cheques of Rs five Lakhs each to Pinki Sahu, wife of Sushil Sahu and Sapan Kumar Bindhani, father of Siddhi Samrudhi Bindhani in the presence of Ganjam Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida.
The Award has been instituted by the Government of Odisha since 2020 to felicitate people who donate their organs like heart, kidney, and lungs and save precious lives. It is instituted in the memory of Suraj Behera of Ganjam, whose parents had donated his six organs and saved six different lives after he was declared brain dead.
The Chief Minister today said that the society is indebted to the parents of both Sushil and Siddhi for donating the organs and saving others’ lives. It will have a good impact on the society.
He called upon all to do such good things and be an inspiration to others to build a beautiful society.
The Chief Minister also said that Organ Donation has brought hope to many families. Saving lives of others is a holy deed.
Organ Donation is also courageous decision. There is no comparison to the sacrifice of the families who donate organs.
Attending the program, Health Minister Naba Kisore Das, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, Development Commissioner Pradip Kumar Jena and other senior officials praised the noble works of families of organ donors.
