Chatrapur: As the Biju Jayanti is being observed on Saturday to mark the 106th birth anniversary of former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, the villagers of Nolia Nuagaon in Chatrapur block in Ganjam district named a beach after the great leader on the occasion.
Inspired by the principles and ideologies of Biju Babu, the villagers have named the Nolia Nuagaon beach as Biju Patnaik Beach on his Jayanti.
“Biju Patnaik was a visionary nationalist leader and a freedom fighter. He was a great son of the soil. His birthplace was Nuagaon in Belaguntha block in Ganjam. Nuagaon had special attachment to Biju Babu. Therefore, we have named the Nolia Nuagaon beach after Biju Babu as a mark of tribute to the legendary leader on his birth anniversary”, said D. Simali, a villager of Nolia Nuagaon.
The Biju Patnaik Beach is the third major beach in Ganjam district after Gopalpur and Sunapur. It is one of the widest beaches in the State.
The Ganjam administration has decided to take up several initiatives to develop the beach into a major tourist destination, said district Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange while attending the inauguration of the beach.
Ganjam PD DRDA Shinde Dattatraya Bhausaheb was also present on the occasion.
The administration has already prepared a detailed project report for construction of an all weather road to the beach.
The villagers keep the beach clean regularly and add facilities for the visitors.
