Berhampur: Krushna Chandra Sahu, who played an instrumental role for popularizing Ganjam’s folk art Prahallada Natak globally, passed away on Wednesday. He was 86.
Guru Krushna Sahu died due to age-related ailments. He was taken care of by his son in Bhubaneswar, as per reports.
Sahu, who was originally belonged to the Nuagada village in Bellaguntha block, chose Liakhai in Chikiti block as his Karma and Sadhana Sthali.
Arrangements have been made to bring the mortal remains of Guru Krushna Sahu to Liakhai village, where his last rites will be performed.
Guru Krushna Sahu had dedicated his life for popularizing Prahallada Natak also known as Raja Nata (the dance of the king) across the country and abroad.
Prahallada Natak is a unique blend of elements of other famous classical and folk theatre traditions like Yakshagana of Karnataka or Ankia Bhaona of Assam. Krushna Sahu was an exponent of Prahallada Natak and a talented Guru in all aspects of this traditional folk dance.
He had received many honors and awards including the President’s Award. He had visited several countries, such as USA, England, France and South Africa for Prahallada Natak. He had earned accolades for his performances.
He has many distinguished disciples who later lead this folk art as gurus.
His demise is an irreparable loss to the world of Prahallada Natak. Several artists have expressed condolences over his demise.
