New Delhi: Odisha born former IAS officer Girish Chandra Murmu today sworn in as the new Comptroller & Auditor General of India. President Ramnath Kovind administered him the oath of office and secrecy at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
1985 batch administrative officer Murmu has held a number of important positions during his tenure. He was Jammu and Kashmir’s first Lieutenant Governor Girish after the abrogation of Article 370 and creation of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. A native of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, he also served as the principal secretary to Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He became the first Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
With this appointment, the number of Odias in important positions in the center has risen to five. Principal Secretary in Prime Minister’s Office PK Mishra, RBI Governor Shaktikant Dash, IMD Director Mrutyunjay Mohapatra and NDRF DG Satya Narayan Pradhan are the others holing highest positions in their respective fields.
