Golanthara Police Arrests Father For Attempting To Kill Handicapped Daughter

Berhampur: The Golanthara Police today arrested and forwarded to court E Balaji Patra of Padampur, Golanthara, on charges of attempting to kill his own daughter by forcibly giving her poison. The bizarre incident came to light when Balaji’s wife filed a complaint against Balaji in this regard yesterday.

According to the Police, Balaji and Parbati have five daughters and one son. All daughters were married except the elder daughter E. Dalama. She was affected by Polio since childhood. She was working at a private company in Kerala. Citing her physical disability, her father always used to abuse and assault her. He also accused her that she had destroyed his life and reputation. On 19th July, when the mother of the victim Dalama was returning home after going out for a while on some work, heard the shouting of Dalama and went to the up-stairs and found that her husband Balaji Patra had tied the hands of Dalama to the bed and forcibly administered poison (i.e. pesticide) to the daughter Dalama Patra with an intention to kill her.

Seeing his wife, the accused father left that place. Mother of the victim, with the help of her son, shifted her to MKCG Medical College Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment and her condition is very critical.

The Golanthara Police came to know during the interrogation that the father poisoned his daughter on the suspicion of her being pregnant after going to Kerala and she had damaged his social reputation. A case has been filed U/S- 294/326/328/342/307 IPC.
