Bhubaneswar: A hardcore Maoist has surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday.
Sonal Madvi alias Kiran, who worked as Area Committee Member in Gumma Area Committee under AOBSZC surrendered before DIG of Police, SWR, Koraput.

He was inducted in the CPI (Maoist) organization in the year 2012 in Pamedu Area Committee, Chhattisgarh as a Party member. He was given military training in 2012.

Kiran was involved in five major attacks on security forces along with several other incidents during his underground life.

According to police, Kiran decided to give up guns, days after his wife surrendered before police in Koraput.
“After seeing lot of developmental activities being undertaken by the Government of Odisha, he realized the futility of violent path of Naxalism and thus decided to join the mainstream of the society,” said DGP Abhay in a press release.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had given a call to active Naxals and militia for surrendering and becoming part of mainstream by becoming part of the developmental initiatives.

This appeal of CM coupled with the good surrender and rehabilitation policy of Odisha Government has also influenced him to give up the path of violence and to join the mainstream.
