Health and Education Sectors Get Boost in Odisha Budget 2022-23

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari presented Rs 2 lakh crore progressive and development oriented Budget for the financial year 2022-23 with focus on the health and education sector.

With Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik emphasizing on strengthening the healthcare sector, the State Government has allocated Rs 12,624 crore in budget 2022-23 financial year, enhancing the allocation by 38 per cent compared to the previous financial year.

The Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), which has been a path breaking programme of the State Government to provide universal health coverage with special emphasis on health protection of vulnerable families and women, has received budgetary allocation of Rs 2664 crore. The scheme extends cashless health care to about 96 lakh families in the State. Similarly, Rs 2335 crore has been allocated under Mukhyamantri Swasthya Seva Mission to further strengthen the health services and health infrastructure in the State.

To further transform the education and skill development ecosystem in Odisha, the State Government has allocated funds worth Rs 27,324 crore in the Budget for the 2022-23 financial year. The current budget allocation registers an increment of 12% from previous financial year’s budget.
