Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains triggered by Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Yass have created flood like situation in the coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada. Mayurbhanj which is on the path of the Cyclone has also experienced torrential rains in the last 12 hours.
While the landfall process has already started, Balasore and Bhadrak districts are experiencing winds with 130 to 140 kmph speed accompanied with heavy rains. Thye met department has predicted rains for another 12 hours in the affected regions. Briefing the media, SRC Pradeep Jena has said that the landfall process has started in the north of Dhamara and south of Balasore over Remuna and Bahanaga areas.
Many areas of North Odisha have experienced heavy rains. Highest rainfall of 304 MM has been recorded at Kusumi In Mayurbhanj followed by 288 MMat Chandbali in Bhadrak district. Rajanagar in Kendrapada also reported 275 MM rain fall during the last 12 hours. While Erasama in Jagatsingpur has received 271 MM rains. In the affected districts, 67 areas have received rainfall of more than 110 MM. Many villages in the coastal areas of Balasore and Bhadrak such as Soro, Bahanaga, Baliapala, have witnessed water entering into villages.
