Puri: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) held a massive Jana Jagaran Abhiyan rally in Puri today, launching a scathing attack on the BJP-led double engine government over its multiple failures as it completes one year in power.
The rally, held under the directive of BJD President Naveen Patnaik, was spearheaded by the Biju Yuva Janata Dal and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal wings, and saw the active participation from senior party leaders and workers.
During the rally, the BJD strongly criticized the state government’s performance, highlighting failures across critical sectors — including rising youth unemployment, poor student welfare, and a deteriorating law and order situation.
The BJD accused the BJP of deceiving the public with grand election promises that remain unfulfilled. It raised several key issues including the spurt in crimes against women, deaths due to mango kernel consumption and spurious liquor, the spread of cholera, and lack of access to basic health services.
The party also took on the government over its neglect of students and youth, pointing to the absence of the promised two crore annual jobs, the failure to allocate scholarships in the budget, and the non-conduct of student union elections for 2024–25.
The BJD leaders further slammed the government for failing to implement OBC reservations in medical and engineering admissions, stalling self-employment initiatives, and ignoring inter-state issues like the Mahanadi and Polavaram disputes. They also accused the Centre of underutilizing funds in Odisha — spending only 42% of the allocated budget over the last 11 years, hindering the state’s development.
