Berhampur:  A village in Odisha’s Ganjam district has been declared containment zone as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Matia Sahi village in Baghalati gram panchayat under Kukudakhandi block has been declared as COVID-19 hotspot, said Shinde Dattatraya Bhausaheb, Sub-Collector-cum Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Berhampur and Incident Commander for COVID-19.

The step was taken by the administration after getting information about presence of at least 130 migrants from Bhubaneswar, which has reported maximum number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the State.

As per the order, all the movement of people and vehicles in or out of Matia Sahi is strictly restricted until further orders. The police set up a temporary check post at entry point of the village and monitor the lockdown.

Meanwhile, BDO Kukudakhandi has been insisted to ensure home delivery of essential commodities to the people during lockdown period.

Any person violating the lockdown will be taken to compulsory quarantine facility, an official order.

Earlier, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange declared partial shutdown in the district to combat the spread of the deadly disease.
