Kendrapara: In a heart-wrenching incident that has sparked outrage across the state, an 80-year-old man, was forced to visit the local panchayat office in Odisha’s Kendrapara district to collect his old-age pension.
The shocking incident took place in Kora Panchayat in Kendrapara. The video of it was shared on social media extensively.
The video shows elderly man Sridhar Sahu, frail and struggling, being assisted by community members as he makes his way to the panchayat office.
Previously, Sahu’s daughter had collected his pension from the Panchayat office. However, this month, the Panchayat Executive Officer denied her the money, compelling the frail elderly man to make the difficult journey himself.
The event, captured in a video that has since gone viral, has highlighted the severe challenges faced by the elderly in accessing their rightful benefits due to rigid bureaucratic processes. It also reveals the harsh reality of an administrative system that fails to accommodate the needs of its most vulnerable citizens.
