Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a massive protest in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, targeting the BJP government for its multiple failures in the past year in Odisha.
Senior BJD leaders, MLAs, and prominent women leaders took to the streets, holding placards and raising slogans against what they called the BJP’s incompetence and injustice towards Odisha.
The protest began at Master Canteen Square and proceeded towards Lower PMG, where BJD leaders and workers demonstrated peacefully. However, police intervened and detained several protesters as they attempted to advance further, as per media reports.
The agitation highlighted a range of allegations against the BJP government, including the drying up of Mahanadi river water, an uncertain future for the youth, arbitrary renaming and recoloring initiatives, preferential treatment to states like Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, unfair policies like paddy procurement cuts, and rising incidents of women harassment.
BJD leaders accused the BJP of neglecting Odisha’s interests and failing to deliver on its promises.
The BJP government is more focused on publicity than addressing the real issues of the people. Odisha is facing injustice while other states receive undue favors, the BJD alleged.
The demonstration saw significant participation from BJD’s women wing, emphasizing the party’s concerns over increasing crimes against women under the current regime.
The BJD vowed to continue its agitation to expose the BJP government’s failures and ensure that the voices of Odisha’s people are heard.
