Hirakud Bird Census Results Out: Number of Migratory Birds and Species Increase

Sambalpur: The number of migratory birds in Hirakud has increased again this year. According to the results of the bird census carried out on the 8th of this month, the number of species has also increased. The annual bird counting was held in the 500 square kilometer area of Hirakud Reservoir and the power channel. A team of 78 Forest Department personnel divided into 32 teams were engaged in the counting. According to the report released today, 20 new species of birds have been sighted this year in Hirakud. A total of 3,42,345 birds of 113 species have gathered at the reservoir this year. Last year, 3,16,676 birds were sighted.
