How to Protect from 5G SIM Fraud: Odisha E&IT Dept Issues Advisory

Bhubaneswar: While people across the country are excited to experience the faster network with 5G mobile services, fraudster are taking advantage of this opportunity to trick innocent people.

The Electronics & Information Technology (E&IT) Department, Government of Odisha has urged the people to follow proper precautionary measures to keep the fraudsters at bay.
The E&IT Department has issued an advisory to protect people from 5G SIM fraud.

How it is done?

• Fraudsters target victims via call or suspicious link on social media, SMS, WhatsApp, etc
• Once call is received or link is clicked, fraudsters send SMS offering an upgrade of the existing 4G plan to SG plan
• While interaction, they cunningly obtain OTP and other details

How to protect yourself?

• Block the suspicious number from which request is coming
• Refrain from clicking on suspicious links even from known people
• Always remember, Telecom companies never ask for OTPs to provide SG service
• If strangers contact under the guise of offering advanced booking or special offers, they should be treated as spam calls
