Hrusikesh Bhoi to Play Role of King Kansa at Dhanu Yatra

Bargarh: Hrusikesh Bhoi will play the role of demon King Kansa at the 75th edition of world famous Dhanu Yatra in Bargarh district this year.

Bhoi has been selected for this major role among the 42 artists who went for audition at Biju Patnaik Town Hall here.

The significance of the role of King Kansa in ‘Dhanu Yatra’ is that during the festival he rules the town, which then is transformed into his capital Mathura. All residents become his obedient subjects.

The auditions for selection of artists for different roles for the drama began on Monday and concluded on Thursday.

As many as 223 applicants were received for 11 different roles this year, as per reports.

Dhanu Yatra, which is said to be the world’s largest open-air theatre, would be held from December 27 to January 6 after the gap of two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The 11-day drama, based on ‘Harivamsa Purana’ which chronicles the early life of Lord Krishna, will be organized in an area of five sq km.
